In today’s society there are so many outlets when social media sharing. You can edit pictures, create entire albums on the internet that you have the power to allow the public to view, your own picture based website with followers, and creative ways to blog your favorite ideas in visual formats. Phones offer the instant ability to share pictures with apps such as Facebook and Instagram. On both these social media sharing sites you get to select privacy settings which enable you to:
Add friends, block friends, access to your pictures without needing to request a friendship, keep all photos private until individual is added as friend or follower, upload separate albums (on Facebook) and have different privacy settings for each.
While Facebook and Instagram are two very large, well known social media sharing sites, you have more options when considering the social media sharing world. Tumblr is a blog site anyone can join that is dedicated to sharing pictures to express your individuality, state of mind, preferences, emotions, beliefs, etc. On Tumblr you can create an account, choose the layout you prefer, have a picture of yourself if desired, then follow ideas and other blogs you enjoy. When you find something you desire on your tumblr there is an option to “reblog”; the picture will then appear on your page. You also have the option to “like” the picture- which will not make the picture appear in your blog but will store it in your “likes”.
A new way of sorting pictures online has recently hit all social media sharing sites, and is being used by news networks, tv shows, celebrities, and companies to “trend” an idea and keep all related thoughts together in the vast universe of the internet. This new sorting tool is called a hashtag. For example, you upload a picture of people doing yoga on the beach in your favorite workout attire. Next you upload the beautiful beach setting picture to Instagram and include the caption: “Yogies on the beach. #yoga #beach #workout #fitness #lululemon.” Now every idea after a “#” sign hosts your picture. Then, when you really want to see yoga pictures you can now search #yoga and all pictures related to yoga will appear! You can do it with anything and everything. Social media sharing has become a huge part of todays society and is a great way to save memories, keep up with your loved ones lives, and view all your interests quickly and efficiently!
